A title sequence bonds the audience with the film, introducing them to the beginnings of a narrative. Through a variety of techniques, technologies and processes opening and closing title’s capture the imagination of film makers, designers and watchers alike; they have a purpose to establish and communicate the opening statement of a film through design. I feel title sequences hold a unique avenue of expression within film that combines a variety of creative outputs from illustration to graphic design and animation. Imaginary Forces culminates these various processes to explore and experiment the boundaries of the title sequences among feature marketing, experience design, branding, commercial advertising, and interactive design. Founded in 1996 Imaginary Forces has been responsible for capturing the audiences attention for some of the most successful films and T.V. series such as “Stranger Things”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Mad Men” and “Vinyl.”

Imaginary Forces explorations into illustration within title and film design excite’s me the most; openings for “Pacific”, “Underground” and “Manhattan” all feature varied aspects of visual imagery that is both unique and experimental. In particular the opening title sequence for “Pacific”, a HBO T.V. mini series following the journey of marines fighting in the battle of the pacific during WW2, features hand drawn illustrations balanced with soft edits into live action film. The combination of these to elements transcends a perspective of traditional artistic techniques with modern technologies, an intriguing aspect of title design that Imaginary Forces play with. The added coffee stained effects alongside an emotional soundtrack establishes a strong sense of feeling for the narrative to follow. Unlike other studios, Imaginary Forces encompasses a body of work that mixes more traditional techniques with modern outputs, covering animation, illustration, graphic design, motion FX and live action work. Imaginary Forces ability to explore many varied creative channels identifies themselves as leading visionaries in modern film title design, emphasising a visual language that is innovative, original and thrilling.
