Evolving at the centre of the British pop art scene during the 1960s, Eduardo Paolozzi uses a variety of mediums from print, collage and sculpture to influence his work. Focusing on popular culture and capturing the everyday norm Paolozzi’s characterful and vibrant creations attract the eye instantly through energetic patterns, shapes and colours. This major Eduardo Paolozzi retrospective spans five decades and features over 250 works; from the artist’s post-War bronzes, revolutionary screen-prints and collages, to his bold textiles and fashion designs. A stand out feature from the exhibition was the huge Whiteworth Tapestry, characters of Disney are encompassed in Paolozzi’s iconic pop art approach to pattern design; throughout the exhibition are examples of explorations into the unknown, in turn reinforcing Paolozzi’s ability to provoke and revolutionise.
