The childish, colourful and playful works of London based artist Liam Buckley are some you have to just smile at. His latest series of works titled Picasso, McDonalds and the Beatles feature canvas’s filled with naked beings bathing in fields of cactus’s. In an interview with ItsNiceThat Buckley explains his influences:

‘My three main influences for this body of work were McDonalds, Picasso and The Beatles as I think they are generally considered to be the three best things. Generally speaking it’s hard to talk about influences as I’m influenced by everything from a mark on a painting by Cy Twombly to a song by David Bowie.’

Hidden narratives flow between each canvas, with suggested clues to the ideas behind each painting revealed within the random yet humorous title for the artwork. Buckley’s series of works highlight a personal response to everyday culture, the brightly and highly textual paintings compose an insight the imagination of Buckley, forming more of a visual diary than a painting.

Plans for an upcoming solo show this year, plus a group show the Buckley is plotting for the summer, are underway.
