New Zealand born director, Sam Kristofski makes films that are dreamy, imaginative and wonderfully bizarre. In recent years Kristofski has directed music videos for Kiwi and Australian bands Shapeshifter, Bic Runga, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and The Datsuns. Using film as his main working material:
“Film all the way – it’s more exciting. My ideas are better when I’m shooting film as I have a scale to work to. It looks better too. And it’s super expensive, so you can’t make something bad. Otherwise, it’s not just a waste of time, it’s a waste of money.” - Interview with Hijacked.
Kristofski produces works screaming originality and charisma. Playing with colour and composition, the Kiwi creative brings his subject matter to life, from a rage driver mowing down sheep in the music video for The Datsuns - Claw Machine, to U.F.O spottings in the desert for his short film Zieri Cosmos. His ability to combine traditional materials with modern techniques places Kristofski in a realm of experimentation and exploration with the old and new.
