Awaken My Love

Two albums, a stack load of blockbuster films and a handful of mixtape’s later, the director, actor and musician Donald Glover more commonly associated as Childish Gambino, lets loose his most adventurous, mysterious and explosive project to date. Leaving the rapping behind and replacing it with melodies and vocals, Awake my Love takes form of Gambino’s third album and sees a transition from a traditional hip-hop album to a fiery, funk filled frenzy masterpiece. The eleven song strong album travels along a smooth, silky and eloquent melody road turning of into pathways of Eddie Hazel, Funkadelic and George Clinton. The experimentation and exploration that Gambino brings to life continues with his plans to release a virtual reality vinyl. Featuring an app, VHR headset and the two LP records, the virtual reality experience is inspired by Gambino’s PHAROS concerts. Awaken, My Love! is an avenue for trans-media content that explores a multi channel expression, but more over highlights the pure funk that embodies Gambino, and the the listener’s that get incapsulated by the hypnotic sounds.
